Press release: The tender for 200 new commuter trains is published!
Norske tog AS has published the tender for 200 new commuter trains. The trains will replace the current commuter train, Class 69, operating on line L2 Stabekk - Oslo - Ski. The main delivery is 30 train sets with an option to buy additional 170 train sets.
- A new generation commuter trains will provide increased capacity, comfort and network coverage to make it easier and better for travellers. The first train sets will according to the plan be delivered in 2023, ready to operate Line L2 from 2024, said Øystein Risan, CEO of Norske Tog AS.
New commuter trains will increase the capacity for a growing number of travellers. Class 69 trains have approximately room for 300 seated passengers and 270 standing. The new commuter trains will have a length of maximum 100 meters, 33 meters longer than the trains currently operating the line. Norske tog estimate the total capacity of the new commuter trains to be 700-800 passengers in each train set.
- We have been in close dialogue with different user groups during the process and have received valuable input on the design of the new commuter trains. We believe this large tender will be interesting for suppliers and expect to receive good offers, said Risan.
Contract signing is estimated to take place in December 2020.
