We are well underway with the procurement of new long-distance trains!
The procurement of new long-distance trains is progressing steadily in order to renew the rolling stock on our long-distance railway lines. Bergensbanen is among the first in line to get new trains.
Old equipment creates operational challenges
It's no secret that the rolling stock on several of our long-distance railway lines is getting old. The carriages on Bergensbanen, for example, were manufactured in the 1980s and have exceeded their technical lifespan. This means less comfort for passengers and faults on the trains that lead to delays and cancellations.
Sille Svenkerud Førner, project manager for the new long-distance trains, was interviewed by Bergensavisen earlier this week about the new long-distance trains from Stadler.
- The co-operation on the new trains to Norway is fantastic. The current trains have major problems with operational stability, and there are often faults and outages, said Førner.
New facilities on long-distance train routes
The new trains along Bergensbanen will feature recliners, flexible sleeping compartments, bistro cars, family zones and plenty of space for luggage. These trains will also offer a wider range of sleeping options, including recliners as well as sleeping compartments for two and four people. Recliners will be available 24 hours a day and the sleeping compartments can be converted into seating areas or office space during the day, making them ideal for both family outings and business travel.
- We asked the market what kind of trains were needed for different conditions and let the manufacturers decide. We chose the best offer. These are brand new trains that will run flawlessly for many years.
